Comparing countries to relocate to from Nigeria involves more than an entry visa or a proposed date for obtaining a passport. Permission to visit, permission to live in a country, access to employment and permanent status are different questions. A destination with a straightforward visit procedure may still require a separate application before work can begin.
This comparison covers five destinations: Slovenia, Argentina, Serbia, Portugal and Georgia. They are examples of different national systems, not a list of countries guaranteed to accept a Nigerian applicant. Citizenship, qualifications, family connections, financial resources and the intended activity affect the route available in each case.
What would make a move easier in a particular case?
The search for the easiest country to relocate to from Nigeria can refer to several different problems. One person needs to continue a profession; another wants to join a spouse; another has admission to a course. A short document list matters only if the category actually fits that person’s circumstances. A simple-looking procedure is not an available route without the underlying eligibility.
Time also needs a consistent starting point. Preparing records before submission, waiting for an application decision and completing a qualifying period for a later status are separate intervals. A statement about a passport after a number of years does not establish when the right to apply arises or how long the eventual decision will take.
| Criterion | Question it answers |
|---|---|
| Residence basis | Which documented circumstance supports the application? |
| Work and income | Which activities does the particular permission allow? |
| Renewal | What conditions must continue after the first approval? |
| Family | Who is moving, and what rights will each person have? |
| Later status | Which residence periods count towards settlement or nationality? |
| Everyday arrangements | How will housing, language, education and healthcare be organised? |
Slovenia: the purpose of residence comes first
Employment, education and family circumstances are among the purposes considered in Slovenia’s residence system. An employment route involves the permission required for the particular situation. Knowing English, having a job lead or being able to communicate informally does not by itself fulfil a residence requirement or authorise professional activity.
A claim based on Slovenian family origin requires its own legal assessment. An ancestor from any part of former Yugoslavia is not automatically evidence of a Slovenian connection. Slovenia is therefore not presented as a destination where most foreign applicants already have a right to a general repatriation programme.
The distinction between a short visit and residence remains relevant to planning. The document used to enter does not alone explain the right to stay for work or study. The separate overview of immigration to Slovenia discusses those purposes without treating them as interchangeable.
Argentina: categories cannot be transferred between nationalities
Argentina’s migration authority distinguishes temporary and permanent residence and the grounds within those categories. Nationality, place of birth and family circumstances can affect the applicable procedure. Conditions described for a particular nationality group do not establish the requirements for someone holding a Nigerian passport.
This comparison does not promise a passport after two years. A residence period associated with an application, the evidence needed to establish that period and a decision on citizenship are separate matters. Arrival in the country does not establish that a chosen residence category is already available.
Serbia: residence and work need to be read together
Serbia’s official portal distinguishes temporary residence from a single residence and work permit. The basis and more specific reason for the application determine the procedure. Some other residence categories can carry work rights under the law; the single permit should not be presented as the only possible document for every foreign resident.
Descriptions of hospitality or personal comfort do not identify the right legal category. They also do not establish the evidence for renewal. A professional application and a family application can involve different circumstances even where the applicants expect to live in the same city.
Portugal: the source of income changes the route
Taking local employment, running an independent activity, enrolling on a course and living on personal income involve different requirements. A salary from work performed remotely is not the same type of evidence as a pension or income from assets. A bank statement showing money exists does not, by itself, explain the purpose for which residence is requested.
The article on immigration to Portugal separates these categories and the later residence process. It does not use the old combination of one investment amount and citizenship after five years as a current universal offer. Residence conditions, the total moving budget and nationality requirements require different calculations.
Georgia: permitted entry is not unrestricted access to work
In Georgia, entry, residence and professional activity also need to be distinguished. The labour migration framework includes a right-to-work requirement for foreign nationals covered by it. The length of a permitted stay cannot therefore be used on its own to establish that employment or entrepreneurial activity is authorised.
No universal visa-free period is assigned here to Nigerian travellers. The relevant entry rules depend on the person’s nationality, travel document and circumstances. Similarly, the absence of a language test at one stage would not mean that language is irrelevant to work, correspondence or everyday administration.
The cheapest country depends on the whole household budget
Looking for the cheapest country to relocate to from Nigeria requires a consistent scenario. An application fee is a one-off expense. Rent, food, transport and insurance recur, while a period without established income may begin before the first salary. A low official charge cannot demonstrate that the whole move is inexpensive.
- Document preparation and application charges are recorded separately from living costs.
- The household size is matched to accommodation and daily expenses.
- The right to earn the planned income is checked against the intended status.
- Renewals and later administrative costs belong in a longer-term calculation.
- Foreign-currency estimates include a date and the basis of conversion to naira.
A high salary in an advertisement does not establish disposable income without the deductions, housing costs and contractual terms. Comparing a tourist stay in one country with permanent residence in another also creates an uneven calculation. The same family, activity and duration provide a more interpretable basis.
Lists of easy countries to relocate to from Nigeria cannot account for every applicant’s existing connections. A particular route may be available because a person already has a qualification, family relationship or study place. The legal basis makes that route specific; it does not make the country universally easy.
Finding work in Europe and acquiring EU citizenship are discussed in separate articles. The place a person is leaving also differs from their nationality: the example of moving from Israel to the EU illustrates why residence in the departure country does not replace information about citizenship.
